He launched his label ’Yohji Yamamoto’ in 1981, and is also familiar to consumers through his athletic line with Adidas Y-3. Yamamoto is also known for creative collaborations across various artistic fields, such as with film directors Wim Wenders and Takeshi Kitano, and for being the only Japanese designer to receive the French award Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et Lettres in 1994.
