First discounted Russian crude oil delivery unloaded in Pakistan with payment in Chinese yuan

The first cargo of discounted Russian crude oil arranged under a deal struck between Islamabad and Moscow earlier this year was being unloaded at a Pakistan port on Tuesday (June 13). The unloading process had begun on Sunday (June 11) and was due to be completed by 10 a.m. (0500GMT) on Wednesday (June 14). Pakistan’s petroleum minister said on Monday (June 12) that the import had been paid for in Chinese currency, a significant shift in the country’s U.S. dollar-dominated export payments policy. Russia and Pakistan initially signed an agreement with Russia for the purchase of 100-thousand tons of oil, which is supposed to arrive in two ships.
