British actor Alan Rickman, who was perhaps best known for playing Severus Snape in the Harry Potter series, has died at the age of 69.
He often played villainous characters such as Hans Gruber in “Die Hard“ and the Sheriff of Nottingham in “Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves,“ for which he won a Bafta award.
He had been suffering from cancer, his family said.
Rickman got his big break in acting when he appeared in the Broadway version of “Dangerous Liaisons“ in the mid 1980’s.
