KSP - Ares Mission to Mars - RSS / RP-0

KSP mission on Mars, Phobos and Deimos - all in one go. Mission architecture is based on the novel “Voyage“ by Stephen Baxter but it can’t be considered as a recreation. Instead of Venus swingby the crew will go straight to Mars (fast conjunction) and then to Phobos and Deimos. Possible mission opportunities in 1972-77 period: Picture above explaines why I didn’t choose Venus swingby - launch window in 1972 would require absolutively massive 3000 t spaceship at LEO and there’s no point waiting on 1977 window when the mission can be performed in 1973. Also there is launch window for Earth-Venus-Earth mission in 1973 so both journeys (Mars landing and Venus flyby) can be completed before 1976 at the same cost but faster and with additional scientific return from Phobos and Deimos landing.
