Island Off The Coast Of America (Live At Hugh’s Room)

“Friday“ is the latest Monkey House album on Alma Records, released on July 26, 2019. The band played to a standing room only audience at Hugh’s Room Live in Toronto on July 22, 2019 to celebrate the release of “Friday“. We will be posting one song a month from that concert. Enjoy! “Island Off The Coast Of America” is the latest in a series of Monkey House songs about New York City; its predecessors include “The Difference Between New York And L.A.,” “Second Avenue Subway,” and “It’s Already Dark In New York.” I’m always moved by the swagger, depth, funkiness, and utter uniqueness of NYC. “Island” is my tribute to Manhattan’s independent spirit and its non-stop feast for the senses. Like “Already Dark,” the recording features my friend Michael Leonhart, known to many/most of you as the trumpet player from Steely Dan, but lately even more remarkable for leading incredible ensembles of his own (Danophiles may also know who “Mister Fogel” is). In this clip, from our 2019 album release bash in Toronto, the trumpet soloist is the great William Sperandei, playing his ass off the way he does every damn time I hear him! —DB The Band Don Breithaupt - keys, lead vocals, arranger Mark Kelso - drums Pat Kilbride - bass Justin Abedin - guitar William Sperandei - trumpet John Johnson - sax Ian Jutsun - bg vocals Produced by Peter Cardinali and Don Breithaupt Island Off The Coast Of America written by Don Breithaupt.
