Donald Trump has described how a bullet “came within a quarter of an inch of taking my life” as he made his first public speech since he faced an assassination attempt last weekend.
Speaking on the final night of the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Trump gave a lengthy speech outlining his plans for a second term in the White House, including a promise to bring Americans together.

He said the “assassin’s bullet came within a quarter of an inch of taking my life,” but that he would only tell the story of the attack once.
“You’ll never hear it from me the second time, because it’s actually too painful to tell,” he said.
