Sword Dance display by juniors from Brenda Gordon School of Dance during 2023 Huntly Spring Fair

A display of Highland Sword dancing by students of the Brenda Gordon School of dance in Huntly Square on Saturday 6th May 2023. This was part of the Huntly Spring festival and 75th anniversary celebrations by Huntly & District Pipe Band on the Coronation weekend. The Sword Dance or ’Ghillie Callum’ is an ancient dance of war of the Scottish Gael, said to date back to King Malcolm Canmore (Shakespear’s MacBeth). The dance requires a lot of concentration and you can see the students constantly watching the placement of their feet.
