Rafael Martínez Santisteban was born in the city of Santiago de Cuba, Cuba, on November 8th, 1982. In June 2005, he earned his BA in Physical Education from the Higher Education Institute of Sports in Cuba at Manuel Fajardo where he learned how to dance and teach Cuban popular dances.
In 2013, he founded Sandunga Dance School, a world famous Cuba Popular Dance School that is dedicated to teaching Salsa, Son, Rueda de casino and traditional Cuban dances such as: Pilón, Mambo, Cha Cha Chá, and Mozambique, etc.
He is a highly sought after Dancer & Instructor known for his highly infectious energy and passion that he brings to his school and his classes. He has participated in many dance events in Cuba, Europe, and in the United Stated.
Sandunga Dance School opened its doors in 2013 in the city of Santiago de Cuba. Sandunga specializes in providing classes in many different styles of cuban dance and percussion. Discipline, seriousness and professionalism are the fundamental elements of this dance school. Our teachers are university graduates who have degrees and careers in medicine, sports, engineering and psychology, just to name a few. Our priority is that the students who dance in Sandunga have fun while they are learning. We provide private and group classes. We also provide excursions inside and outside the city. We are a socially responsible dance school that is committed to paying our teachers and partners a living wage. We work closely with other private business that share our passion for community building. Proceeds from our classes and groups are used to provide an after-school program of dance classes completely free for children under 15 years of age in the city. The objective of this program is to educate the younger generation and keep alive the roots and traditions of Cuban dances.
