Netsuke : Art Piece that Sits on the Palm/根付~掌の中の芸術~

“Netsuke” are miniature sculptures small enough to fit in the palm of the hand. This video takes an in-depth look at a selection of netsuke works, exploring the artistic vision and stories behind each piece, the thoughts of the artisans and collectors, the possibilities opened up by these small netsuke, and their appeal. Thanks to this video you can see the netsuke up close, with the expressive nature of each individual sculpture and superb craftmanship showcasing the skills of the artisans particular highlights (subtitles available in multiple languages). The Japan Foundation traveling exhibition “Contemporary Wood-Carved Netsuke” has been touring the world since 2018, showcasing 65 contemporary netsuke pieces created through fresh and novel ways of thinking.
