John Wesley and the Eastern Fathers

The Reformers never veered far from St. Augustine, and unfortunately they focused particularly on his errors when setting up their own churches. John Wesley, however, was unique in that he actually had an appreciation for the Eastern Fathers; and his Methodist Church is probably the closest one can get to Orthodoxy in the Protestant world (at least in its traditional form. Modern Methodism has completely gone off the rails). Wesley accepted many Orthodox doctrines, and was even ordained by a rogue Orthodox bishop - although don’t suppose this makes them canonical. However close to Orthodoxy traditional Methodism may be, it still has much Western baggage, and is not part of the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church.
