Erik Satie ~1895~ Messe des Pauvres

« Monsieur le Pauvre » reinventes an own liturgy for his Church with this « Messe des Pauvres » (Mass for the Poors) which, although being of a deeply Christian inspiration, does not follow the official liturgy. Satie uses the organ for the first time and adapts its seventh and ninth chords from the mystical period to the writing for the church instrument. The « Messe des Pauvres » definitely puts an end to the mystical period, ten years of loyal service to the cause of God. The relationship is consumed: « I end up assuming he’s even more stupid than he is powerful, the old man », he wrotes in 1900 to his brother Conrad. organ: Martin Rost
