Adorable Wolves Snuggle in a Snow Storm

Wolves are well adapted to survive on the snowy landscape. Guard hairs that form the visible outer layer of a wolf’s coat work like a raincoat and an insulating undercoat keeps them warm. These Mexican gray wolf sisters, Nita and Jean, represent the Wolf Conservation Center’s participation in the active effort to to save their species from extinction. The WCC, a 501c3 non-profit organization in South Salem, NY, is one of a network of facilities participating in the Mexican Wolf Species Survival Plan - a bi-national initiative whose primary purpose is to support the reestablishment of Mexican gray wolves in the wild through captive breeding, public education, and research.
