Looking Back! (1935)

Titles read: ’LOOKING BACK!’ Various locations of events. A combination of animation and archive and modern day footage illustrates this item that looks at the beginnings and progress of railway engines, motor cars, airships and bicycles. The modern examples include the Cock o’ the North steam train, Campbell’s Bluebird, the Zeppelin airship and a high-powered flying boat. While we see a blonde glamour girl in shorts, sitting on a bicycle and powdering her nose, commentator comes out with the classic line “Whilst on the subject of clothes ... what about ladies panties?“ (trust Pathe to get knickers in here one way or another!) and we are treated to a big C/U of the lady’s bottom - with shorts on. Commentator remarks that, like the bicycle, panties are getting smaller and smaller. Animated drawing of a woman in Victorian costume fades into a drawing of her in frilled bloomers and corset.
