But what is its history? When and why was it written, and what importance does it have in American history? All questions will be answered in this very special video. On September 13, U.S. soldiers at Fort McHenry in Baltimore withstood a 25-hour British bombardment. They flew a massive U.S. flag over the fort early the next morning, marking a vital victory and a turning moment in what would be called the second fight for American independence. The sight of the “Wide Stripes and Dazzling Stars“ inspired #FrancisScottKey to create a song that became the United States national anthem.
