A winter storm hit the Spanish island of Mallorca, bringing with it strong winds, heavy rainfall, low temperatures and dangerous waves. Torrential downpours have created two significant sinkholes in the region’s capital, La Palma de Mallorca. Both were caused by heavy rain pressure causing pipes to burst. The largest crater is 8 meters wide and appeared on a key street in the city center, blocking three traffic lanes. Local officials said they would not be able to repair it in less than seven days.
