Modelling a ship can take quite some time. It took me about 4 months to model the HMS Victory about 1 year ago, so I was looking for an easier way to get a good result. Inspired by Ian Hubert, I used an image of a ship as base, so that I did not have to worry about modeling all the small details. Instead, I just had to block out the big and medium shapes, so that when adding a light, the shadows would interact properly with the ship.
There are definitely limitations to hat method, but it took me merely 3 days to get a result I was happy with.
