An American Thief | Free Crime Movie

After a job doesn’t go quite as planned, a bank robber reconciles with a long lost love while holed up in a safe house, waiting for the heat to die down. I’ve always loved stylized crime movies and romances with deeply flawed characters, so I knew I wanted my first feature film to embody these elements. I wanted to capture the tension and style and Drive, the music and looming terror of Nightcrawler, and the tragic love story of The Place Beyond the Pines. I’m not typically an overly confident person, but I think I achieved that with An American Thief. My other goal was to make this film with as little as possible. I utilized myself and my wife as the main actors, and then had some voiceovers done for phone call scenes by some friends and family. I shot everything in and around my apartment, used my own car, purchased most of my props on Amazon, and learned how to paint and weather those props to make them look more realistic.
