The Eurofighter Typhoon, whose prototype was designated EFA (European Fighter Aircraft), is a fourth-generation, twin-engine, multi-role aircraft (Swing Role) with primary role of interceptor fighter and by air superiority. Design and production of the Typhoon are charged to a consortium of three companies, Alenia Aermacchi (merged into Leonardo, new name of Finmeccanica since 2017) Airbus Group and BAE Systems, through a common holding, Eurofighter GmbH, established in 1986.
