The Ninth Avenue Elevated: New York, 1929

Before New Yorkers rode the subways, they rode the elevateds. Built in the nineteenth century, demolished in the mid-twentieth, they were one of the things that made New York, New York. Fox Movietone’s newsreel cameramen visited several locations on the Ninth Avenue El in 1929 and brought back this footage.
