Sexy Girls, Sexy Appliances. Emma Kate Croghan. 1991. Comedy.

Format: 16mm / Sound: Mono / Aspect Ratio: 16:9 Warnings: Sexual references, simulated sexual activity (mild) This satirical and funny short 16mm exercise plays with the idea of product-porn, as sold to the ‘perfect housewife’ of the 1950s and 60s. An ironic ‘fairy tale’ of a film, ‘Sexy Girls, Sexy Appliances’, speaks directly to a historically distinctive period of second wave feminism exploring ways to reclaim historically debasing visual and social representations of women. ‘Sexy Girls, Sexy Appliances’ screened at film festivals both nationally and internationally. Emma Kate Croghan is best known for her films ‘Love and Other Catastrophes’ (2000), starring Matt Day, and ‘Strange Planet’ (1999), which features Claudia Karvan, Naomi Watts, and Hugo Weaving.
