Le Mans 1955 - Reel 2 Part 3 (1955)

Reel 2 The famous crash now takes place (other footage in 55/48). Car rounds the corner. Crowd shot showing concerned faces. Cars crash, pieces of debris fly into the air and into the crowds gathered at the side of the track. One damaged car continues along the track while the other somersaults in the air and bursts into flames as it hits the ground. Concerned faces in the crowd as they see what has happened. Firemen run across track to attend to fire. Pierre Levegh Mercedes was the car that flew into the crowd. Cars pull in for fuel in the pits while smoke from the accident hangs across the track. Wreck of Austin Healy driven by Lance Maklin pushed across the track. Jaguar pulls out of pits. Discussions go on in pit lane. Cars drive past the wreckage of the Austin as it is left at the side of the track. More people talking in the pit. Continued on reel 2.
