Stravinsky ’Petrushka’ Suite - Stokowski conducts in Stockholm
Leopold Stokowski made the first American recording of Stravinsky’s “Petrushka“ with the Philadelphia Orchestra in 1937. In later years he often conducted a Suite from the ballet, especially on his foreign tours. This performance featured in a 1967 television relay from Stockholm in which Stokowski conducted the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra.
The other item on this short TV ’special’ was Stokowski’s own arrangement of Bach’s Toccata and Fugue in D mnor, also now uploaded here.
