‘We had sex at midnight, morning hours. She gave me money which I spent on my family. I was 20 years old,’ says Ali Salim, a native of Kenya. The man had an affair with a German woman though he was already married and had children. He says his wife was well aware of the relations but wasn’t jealous - she understood it’s the only way to survive and keep their children fed. Poverty and a lack of jobs drive young men in Kenya to work as gigolos for older European women. It’s almost impossible to find any other job here, so men, even those who are underage, go to the beach in search of clients.
