Your mission, should you choose to accept it .... etc etc Here’s the full version of the theme tune from the original Mission Impossible TV series, written and recorded by brilliant Argentinian composer Lalo Schifrin. Mission Impossible was a wonderfully choreographed piece of 1960s television kitsch created by Bruce Geller. Originally produced by Desilu it switched to Paramount from 1968 onwards. The formula was simple and appealing: Find a tape recorder and an envelope in a trash can somewhere. Play the tape and internalise the vital instructions and photographs before the tape self-destructs (who knows why) with a puff of white smoke. Then brief your elite team of crime fighters before they go undercover wearing a cunning disguise of rubber masks and improbable moustaches (usually just the men).
