Just now! Magnitude 7.6 earthquake hits near Tonga!

An earthquake of magnitude 7.6 struck just before dawn on Thursday off the coast of Tonga. The epicenter was at a depth of 210 km, 73 km northwest of the village of Hihifo. An aftershock of magnitude 5.1 followed 30 minutes later. No tsunami warning was issued. There were no immediate reports of casualties. Due to the great depth of the tremors, the likelihood of injury and damage is low. Recall that in January 2022, a tsunami hit Tonga after the eruption of an underwater volcano.
