Rumor: The surprising contender not on Andre Drummond’s 5-team list after buyout

The Cleveland Cavaliers were unable to find a trade partner for Andre Drummond before the trade deadline. For that reason, the front office has elected to buy out his contract, making him a free agent. Yahoo Sports’ Chris Haynes reports Drummond will speak with the New York Knicks, Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Clippers, Boston Celtics and Charlotte Hornets. Interestingly, Haynes doesn’t list the Brooklyn Nets, who have long been rumored as a potential Drummond destination. Even more interestingly, Haynes did mention the Nets in passing during a hit on TNT, but he still highlighted the same five teams as listed above: Andre Drummond is an old-school center because he plays most of his game down low in the paint. He’s an elite rebounder and solid defender when engaged. He averaged 17.5 points, 13.5 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks with the Cavs this season before he was placed on the bench before the deadline as the team tried to find a trade.
