one of the things I always loved about XF besides the sci-fi elements (and the MSR of course!) was its running conversation about the abuse of power and the struggle against the presence of a hidden corruption. Mulder and Scully were classic hero figures in that they were part of a system but chose to stand in opposition to elements of it that were had a moral code and stood up for those vulnerable even when it cost them personally in many ways-
