North American Indians used smoke signals: after lighting a fire on a hill or a mountain peak they covered it with a blanket and then remove it which cause a puff of smoke to rise up into the air. The ancient Egyptians, Romans and Greeks used a highly efficient system when a messenger ran to a “station” where he shouted or passed the message to another messenger. And so on, until the message reached its destination. The inhabitants of the island of La Gomera in Canary Islands, Spain, whistled their messages. Средства связи: история мобильных телефонов Mobile phones give us an opportunity to stay in touch everywhere. A modern mobile phone is a more complex version of the two-way radio of the 1940s which was a very limited means of communication. As soon as the callers moved out of range of each other’s broadcast area, the signal was lost. Besides, the “phones” were enormous boxes which had to be transported by cars. In 1973 Dr Martin Cooper invented the first practical mobile phone which was still heavy but portable. The first person he called to announce the successful invention was his rival Dr. Joel S. Engel. Until the early 1990 mobile phones were too large to be carried in a pocket. But digital components became smaller and batteries turned into more sophisticated ones. So, mobile phones changed and since then they have become lighter and more advanced.
