Fort William Bound

Ian Riley’s Black Fives, 45407 The Lancashire Fusilier and 44871, hauling the first Jacobite empty coaching stock move from Carnforth to Fort William for the 2023 season; 30 March 2023. Class 47, 47245 ’VE Day 75th Anniversary’), piloted the tour as far as Craigendoran and then ran round to the rear of the consist, leaving the fives to do the bulk of the work. Clearly the 47 benefited from some steam assistance on Beattock too, which was climbed shortly after 7:00 a.m., following a water stop at Lockerbie. Locations are Harthope on Beattock, Craigendoran (where the West Highland Line begins), Glen Falloch and County March after Tyndrum.
