Pakistan is the sixth largest dates fruit producing country in the world. Palm is the third largest crop in Pakistan. Apart from Balochistan, it is also cultivated in other provinces. Sukkur, Khairpur in Sindh, Dera Ghazi Khan in Punjab and Dera Ismail Khan in KP cultivate different varieties of dates. About 40 to 50 percent of the country’s dates are sourced from the Makran division of Balochistan. The date palm is a historical fruit that has been cultivated for food since ancient times.
