DTM 2021 Teams testing at Monza: ABT’s R8 LMS, AlphaTauri AF Corse’s Ferrari 488, Mücke’s AMG GT3

For the 2021 season DTM is no more adopting the Class 1 touring/silhouette racing cars but instead a GT3-class based formula as part of a cost-efficiency programme, trying to attract more private teams and manufacturers to join the series. The 2021 Championship will start from Monza in a couple of weeks and as I suspected, some teams would come to try the track before the Italian round especially to see how the cars perform with DTM’s own BoP system (Balance of Performance). In fact, in order to differentiate their championship from any other that uses GT3-class cars, DTM’s goal is to create the fastest GT3 series in the World, decreasing the use of air-intake restrictors and ballast. It is understood that last April, during a collective test in Hockeneim, Mercedes was running the engine restrictor at minimal levels, while Audi had no restrictor at all in its quartet of R8 LMS GT3s.
