The First Photos Ever Taken in Korea [1879-1930] 19th Century Far East Collection, Seoul

Howdy ya’ll. Welcome back. Today we are going to be looking at the first photographs ever taken in Korea, dated from the years 1879 until 1930. Throughout the late 19th century, due to Korea’s Joseon Dynasty, contact with outsiders was forbidden. Due to this policy, photography reached and expanded throughout Korea very slowly. The first documented photographs of Korea and its people, taken outside the major cities, occurred around the 1870’s, and we will view a vast collection of these early photographs, both by Korean born photographers and by foreign photographers who later gained access to the kingdom. Overall, these are some of the most amazing photographs of the Old World Far East that I have ever seen. This collection, assembled from an assortment of early photographs, epitomizes the architecture and lifestyle of 19th century Korea.
