[Eng] 花信 (Flower Letter) - 侯明昊 | A girl like me OST 我就是这般女子 片尾曲

Drama ending song sung by Neo Hou, the actor playing the male lead! Warning, the lyrics are sung really fast!! To be honest when I first heard this song, it was rather upbeat, didn’t sound very emotional or poetic like those songs with all that abstract language so I thought it would be easier translating. Well, I was wrong, the language in this song was very flowery... The song’s name 花信 (Flower letter) means a letter bringing the message that flowers have started to bloom. The whole song has a very positive and hopeful vibe so the line ’If there’s a letter, it will surely be like a flower’ means that if there’s a letter, it would surely be one that brings good news (the blooming of flowers, the coming of spring). 人间清澈洗铅华 Cleansing the human realm off everything superficial [铅华 is the face power or makeup pigments used by ancient women. These are superficial things that can be used to cover up/ hide the true self, so to be cleansed off it means the cleansing of everything external and fake] So basically the second and third verses of this song roughly mean: He’s feeling restless and anxious. But then it suddenly rains, washing off all the superficial, fake and insignificant things of the human realm, bringing him good news. With her by his side, he can continue to be without worries, living life like a dream where he can be carefree and do whatever he wants. As he spends more time with her, he learns to discard more and more insignificant things and his only request is for it to remain like this, where he can be together with her, without worries, freely roaming the world. This drama may not be the best but it’s a good time filler without too much drama. Beginning episodes are funny and even if there’s some angst, it gets solved within a few episodes so I’d say it’s rather light-hearted, especially compared to what I last watched (The Wolf). The drama is based on a novel that is being translated into English. I’ve read a number of the author’s works but not this novel so I’m not very bothered by the differences between the drama and novel, but I’ve seen some comments online saying that they’re quite different.
