Chinese migrants cross US-Mexico border via risky route

They first fly to Ecuador, which does not require visas for Chinese nationals. Then they head north through Panama’s Darien Gap jungle to reach the US-Mexico border. They then turn themselves in to US authorities to lodge their asylum claims. According to Panamanian authorities, Chinese citizens were the fourth-largest group crossing the Darien Gap during the first nine months of 2023.
