The Power Of Oxygen (1966)

Crawley, West Sussex. Several demonstrations / experiments involving oxygen are seen at the laboratories of Britain’s biggest oxygen producer (unnamed). A man wearing goggles uses an oxyacetylene cutter to slice through a slab of metal; sparks fly out. Various shots show a demonstration of a portable oxygen resuscitator; a woman lies on the ground beside a plug socket and plug with a broken wire. A man puts the oxygen mask from the resuscitator over the woman’s mouth and nose and she comes round. Other demonstrations show bubbling beakers of oxygen and nitrogen; the nitrogen puts out a flame from a match. Mercury is frozen into a solid block in liquid oxygen; the petals of a rose bud are petrified by the liquid, shattering when touched by a scientist’s glove. A model steam engine is driven (on the spot) by liquid oxygen; a miniature cannon is fired after being filled with liquid oxygen. An egg and a banana are ’cooked’ in a vat of boiling oxygen; they are taken out and hit with a hammer, causing
