Five Forty

This video presents clips of the five forty by Daniil Simkin and Sergei Polunin. The 540 has its origin in the martial arts (particularly Korean) as a jumping kick also known as a tornado kick. The noteable feature of the kick is that the same foot that takes off also kicks and lands, turning approximately 540 degrees. Martial artist Steven Ho popularized the 540 roundhouse kick in the mid-1980s. Wikipedia (source of the above information under “540 Kick”) lists 14 different variants of the kick. The step
