Jerry Garcia & the Grateful Dead Play the Beatles: A Video Compilation 1972-1995

Throughout Jerry Garcia and the Grateful Dead’s career, he and the band were obviously fans of the Beatles and vice versa. Over all projects, Jerry covered 15 songs of the Beatles from 1969-1995, and the groups shared a mutual respect. These are all the times Jerry and the Dead played the Beatles on video, as well as a few audio-only clips (all available Beatles covers on video are included): VIDEO: 0:07 - Why Don’t We Do It In The Road? - 4/7/1985, The Spectrum, Philadelphia, PA 3:24 - Dear Prudence - 9/1/1990, Shoreline Amphitheater, Mountain View, CA (Jerry Garcia Band) 15:23 - Day Tripper - 3/31/1985, Cumberland County Civic Center, Portland, ME 19:05 - Hey Jude | Dear Mr. Fantasy [Traffic cover] / Hey Jude - 10/9/1989, Hampton Coliseum, Hampton, VA 27:29 - Revolution - 3/15/1990, Capital Centre, Landover, MD 32:14 - Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds - 3/24/1993, Dean Smith Center, Chapel Hill, NC 36:34 - Rain - 3/28/1994, Nassau Coliseum, Uniondale, NY 41:29 - Tomorrow Never Knows | Baba O’Riley [The Who cover] / Tomorrow Never Knows - 6/20/1992, RFK Stadium, Washington, DC 48:24 - That Would Be Something [Paul McCartney] - 3/28/1994, Nassau Coliseum, Uniondale, NY 55:13 - Get Back - 1/28/1987, San Francisco Civic Center, San Francisco, CA 1:00:55 - It’s All Too Much - 7/8/1995, Soldier Field, Chicago, IL AUDIO-ONLY: 1:07:11 - Eleanor Rigby | Eleanor Rigby (instrumental)/After Midnight Reprise - 2/28/1980, Wilkins Theater, Kean College, Union Township, NJ (Jerry Garcia Band) 1:16:46 - Blackbird - 6/23/1988, Alpine Valley Music Theatre, East Troy, WI 1:19:25 - A Day in the Life - 7/26/1994, Riverport Amphitheatre, Maryland Heights, MO [Soundchecked, never played] 1:25:26 - Let Me Roll It [Paul McCartney] - 9/30/1977, Theatre 1839, San Francisco, CA (Jerry Garcia Band) 1:34:09 - I Saw Her Standing There [Studio Version] - Run for the Roses (Expanded), Jerry Garcia Band (1982) 1:37:09 - Imagine [John Lennon] - 2/6/1972, Pacific High Studios, San Francisco, CA (Jerry Garcia & Merl Saunders) Notes: “Hey Jude“ and “Tomorrow Never Knows“ were part of multi-song interpolations, their respective songs that they are tied to are listed above. “That Would Be Something“ and “Let Me Roll It“ are Paul McCartney solo songs. “Imagine“ is, of course, a John Lennon solo original. The rest were originally recorded by the Beatles proper. “A Day in the Life“ was only soundchecked by the Dead & never played live. The live arrangement would likely be more developed & refined than what you hear, but it was never debuted & only the soundcheck recording circulates. After Garcia covered “Imagine“ in 1972, being one of the first bands (if not the first) to cover one of John’s solo songs, John visited Jerry Garcia to say thank you to him:
