In its formative stages, this song had dummy lyrics that went like “I’ll be a son of a gun, look what you done“ about a relationship gone bad. KC was not happy with the song, and was inspired when he thought about the DJ’s who played his band’s music in the clubs. That’s when the lyric “I’m your boogie man“ came out and he finished the song making the DJ the subject and working in the idea that he was there to help and make you feel better. On the album Part 3, it segues directly into “Keep It Comin’ Love“ keeping the dancers on the floor and preaching to the masses to not give up, the Rev KC was testifying!
