Coaster Car Race (1954)

Margate, Kent. Various shots of boys aged between 9 and 18 years preparing their soapbox carts for the Coaster Car Derby. The cars have names such as ’Willie Wyn’, ’The Zing’ and ’Never Say Die’. A boy straps a saucepan on his head as a helmet. The cars set off in heats from Fort Hill to the Winter Gardens. Several shots of the carts running along the course. People watch from the sidelines. Cars are repaired between heats. More shots of the cars in the race and coming over the finishing line. One of the cars loses a wheel along the way.
