Schubert is not known for his virtuosic writing but he is known for his difficulty. This arises from a combination of awkward and physically taxing textures with the requirement of clarity and precision only surpassed by Mozart. The challenges of balance, touch, and clarity are only enhanced with the addition of other instruments, which is why I made the decision to break my rule of not including chamber music.
