The Baptistery of Parma, building for the baptismal rite, is located next to the cathedral of Parma and is considered as the junction of Romanesque and Gothic architecture. The baptistery was commissioned to Benedetto Antelami, who began the decoration in 1196, according to an inscription on the portal.
