Back in February 2023, the UK’s first Barber Beats live event was held in Hackney, London featuring three vaporwave artists - OSCOB, ROMBREAKER, and Macroblank. “It’s so relaxing, it’s something you can just put on in the background...“ ...while trying to process your past. Ancient Rome is making a comeback, through the aesthetic of one of the first musical subcultures born on the internet. Is it as mysterious as it sounds? Or is this simply a game of musical statues? I spoke to the artists, the fans, the deep thinkers, Barber CEO’s, creatives and a cheeky NPC barmaid behind the scenes of one of the first main musical genres born on the internet.
