History of Khorezmian Turks

The great Khorezm encyclopedist Abu Reyhan Al-Biruni (973-1048) provides information about the ancient Khorezm Turks in his book “Monuments of Past Generations“: “They (Khorezm Turks) counted the years from the time they settled in their country. This happened 980 years before Alexander. Then they began to count the years after the arrival of Siyavush, the son of Keikavush, who settled in Khorezm and spread his rule in the land of the Turks, and the reign of Keikhosrov and his sons, who moved to Khorezm. This was 92 years after the settlement of Khorezm. Biruni in his works gives the names of the Turkic months and Turkic medicinal herbs that were used by the Turkic population of Khorezm. Biruni, in his work “Monuments of Past Generations”, written in Khorezm around 1000, cites the Turkic names of years according to the animal cycle, which were used by the Turkic population of Khorezm: sichkan, od, bars, tushkangik, lui, ilan, yunt, kuy, picin, tagigu, tunguz. In the same work, he gives the names of the months in Turkic: Ulug-oi, Kichik-oi, Birinchi-oi, Ikkinchi-oi, Uchinchi-oi, Turtinchi-oi, Beshinchi-oi, Oltinchi-oi, Yetinchi-oi, Sakkizinchi-oi, tokkujinchi-oi, uninchi-oi.
