Cyprus traditional dance with glasses on the head

Dance with glasses (Αραπιές της Καντίλας) is a men’s solo Cyprian national dance during which the dancer moves to the sound of music, holding several glasses with wine put at each other on the head. Glasses to the dancer on the head helps to put an assistant or one of the guests. When there are many glasses, in order to put another glass, the dancer has to get on one knee, and the assistant even climbs onto a chair. Virtuoso dancers are able to hold at least 15 glasses of wine on their heads during the dance, without shedding a drop. At the end of the dance, a bottle is also placed on top of the glasses.
