Mandatory Credit: Anglian Water The 2021 excavation of a giant prehistoric fossilized ’sea dragon’ called ichthyosaur was seen in footage released on Monday. The fossil was found in February 2021 in Rutland Water Nature Reserve, in Leicestershire, during routine landscaping works and was excavated by a team of paleontologists in August and September 2021. The ichthyosaur fossil is approximately 180 million years old and has a length of 10 metres (32.8 feet). It is the biggest fossil of this particular species ever found in the UK. Ichthyosaurs were marine reptile predators that lived between 250 and 90 million years ago and could reach up to 25 metres (82 feet)in length. This is not the first time an ichthyosaur fossil is found at Rutland Water Nature Reserve. Two much smaller and incomplete specimens had been discovered during the 70s. Vi
