La Cumparsita - Marek Weber & His Orchestra, Columbia 1946 NOTE: It is a post-war recording of one of the greatest tangoes and made by one of the greatest dance orchestras in the history. Often in You Tube we enjoy the hot and richly orchestrated recordings of the shimmies, charlestons or foxtrotts made in Berlin by Marek Weber’s band, during his best European years 1926-33. Here, however, we have one of his much later American renditions when, due to countless renditions of great European waltzes Marek Weber gained the nick-name of the “King of Waltz“. Yet, not only waltzes constituted his kingdom in America, as it seems. For me, this ravishing performance of La Cumparsita is one of the finest ever made.
