The Active Volcano in Iceland; Askja

One of the largest volcanoes in Alaska is also one of the most remote. Yet, in 1875 it produced one of the nation’s largest explosive eruptions, forming a 2.8 mile or 4.5 kilometer wide crater. The volcano I am referring to is known as Askja, which is a complex of calderas surrounded by a 100 kilometer fissure of smaller eruptions.
