Lara vs Hurd Fight Anniversary: Unifying the 154-lb Division

Jarrett Hurd’s 12th-round knockdown of long-reigning champion Erislandy Lara secured his 154-pound title unification victory on Saturday, April 7, 2017. The fight was incredible battle of two warriors imposing their will over each other through 11RDs. But a knockdown in the RD12 ended up giving the victory to Hurd. It was this knockdown that tipped the scale in his favor, giving Hurd the win by 1 to become the new unified 154-pound champion, dethroning the Cuban veteran Lara—ending his run of seven successful title defenses.
