The Sturmgeschütz IV was more a product of necessity after the heavy Allied bombings when Krupp proposed to design and build an assault gun. As Krupp did not build Panzerkampfwagen IIIs, they used the Panzerkampfwagen IV Ausf. H. chassis in combination with a slightly modified StuG III Ausf. G. superstructure. The StuG IV wasn’t really an upgrade to the StuG III, it weight was inferior to that of the StuG III Ausf.G, 23,000 versus 23,900 kg, maximum armor thickness was reached on the superstructure front, with a 80 mm welded plate and the gun itself was the usual 7.5 cm StuK 40 L/48. The StuG IV was produced from December 1943 to May 1945, with a total of 1,108 plus 31 conversions from damaged Panzer IVs (1139 total). ■ Support me on my Patreon ■ Store: ■ Information obtained from several sites. ■ Wikipedia ■ tanks-encyclopedia ■ ■ preservedtanks ■ ■ ■ Some music is from the YouTube Audio Library. ■ Music used: Copyright fair use notice All media used in this video is used for the purpose of education under the terms of fair use.
