there was a promoted discussion on facebook about hitch-hiking in the 70s. Well, from what I recall, 1974 was the ominous, deadly year for hitch-hiking. Might have been drugs. Maybe just a morality breakdown.
In the early 1970s, I hitched back and forth from LSU quite a few times. In 1973, the summer, I hitched from Pennsyvania to Donaldsonville. Seems the US was more “family“. Just sayin. Back in I guess the early 1960s a couple of Donaldsonville guys hitched to California and Mexico, caught a ride with famous star Broderick Crawford. Maybe one day things will get right and whether US citizens hitch or not, it (or the break-off) will be more of a family. I don’t mean to offend anyone with the fat pictures of me, a friend made those memes, and they seem funny.
